Sum up in one word: Film, Books, Games and VR…
‘Story’ will help direct the success of VR…
Inspiring, that’s how I would describe today’s IMMERSIVE STORIES summit at the Audi Dublin Film Festival. The event AND the people who attended. You can be sure to find that the people who go to summits, conferences, conventions, whatever you want to call it, are there not only to learn but to share that learning. Even if they are working alone as entrepreneurs in their space they still want to feel that sense of camaraderie and return from an event armed with new knowledge, completely jazzed up with new creative energy and recharged.
Good enough endorsement of events for you?
Let me tell you, there is no lack of sharing of experience, of loss and gain, the good and bad of VR developmental experience. Those at the heart of the new frontier are not only willing to share their drive but the results of that drive without holding back the crap. They encourage sharing within the Virtual Reality Community because they have pride in it.
Resh Sidhu is influential worldwide for her pioneering approach that continues to define and lead the Virtual industry. Named one of the Top Fifty Creative Leaders, when Resh speaks, its time to listen.
“We have to protect the quality of VR productions, to not make something in VR just because we can. Consider using another medium such as YouTube or screen if your project would be better represented by it. Create content in VR only when it will enhance the product and the user experience.”
Colum Slevin Head of Experiences Oculus VR, talked about how important story is to the success of Virtual Reality’s future, to that creation of a sense of immersion, “A consensual hallucination”. He also gave us a fascinating review of media from the first day of Muybridge and what was in effect the first film, through to today’s digital age on an amazing timeline which lead you to wonder, ‘what next?’. Watch this amazing youtube video… of Muybridge, fans of film will love this revelation.
Virtual reality needs story, story needs writers, writers need creativity, you’ve got it. Get creating but most of all get crossing those voids, a world awaits you.
